What if we could reimagine our future

by asking a simple question “what if”?

The University of Johannesburg has established itself as a formidable higher education brand, recognised globally as a respected research institution. Despite our successes and accolades, we at the University of Johannesburg, realise that our work is never done and that our mission is never complete. The global challenges of our times demand more from all of us, while at the same time provide unique opportunities. Tomorrow’s challenges are rife and today’s challenge it to get to the ‘tomorrow’ we all dream of. How do we create the ideal ‘tomorrow’? Firstly, by not fearing change. Secondly, by embracing change and thirdly, by reimagining what the future will look like, by asking: “What if?”.

We often hear that the saddest summary of life contains three descriptions: could have, might have, and should have. We at the University of Johannesburg are taking the leap without fear, favour or prejudice. We are shaping the future one inquisitive-student-mind at a time, and we are starting by reinforcing who we are and what we stand for.

With a brand refresh, underpinned by UJ’s vision, mission, values and manifesto, we are reinforcing our excellence and stature on the international stage while proudly anchored in Africa. We are reaffirming our brand promise and purpose of dynamically shaping the future. Our transformation starts from within but ripples out in ever-expanding circles that positively impact humanity. We are creating waves that are connecting rather than dividing, inspiring rather than dulling and uplifting rather than destroying.

The continued success of our brand lies within each individual. All members of staff, all stakeholders as well as each and every student who come together from over 50 different countries in Africa and around the world, to create a collective creative powerhouse – the University of Johannesburg.

We invite all to join us in our quest for ‘what if’. We urge staff, stakeholders and students to never settle for the status quo, but to continue to question everything.
